Quilt blogs. Oh the world opens before us now Virginia.

For many years I was emotionally scarred by 'craft' with Mrs Robinson. Along with 20 repeats running up and down the stairs to the craft room (30 odd stairs over two levels) another punishment she developed was to have we Yr 10s sew and quilt a patchwork cushion. We had a choice of patterns, all extremely traditional, with names and everything. I chose 'Bear Claw' (although it might have been a Maple Leaf).

Fabric purchased and washed, pattern cut and transferred and pieces pinned I began to sew. Whatever name the pattern went by and despite my brother pointing out a triangle was the wrong way around I sewed my little heart out. Those blue-toned, Civil War and 1930s repros built into a sweet square cushion that for me equalled quilting and patchwork - loads of intersecting angles, fussy small prints and the ever-present threat of having to 'do the stairs'. Then while playing on the internet one afternoon I discovered craft blogs, more specifically quilt blogs.

Oh! My! Stars!

In this brave new world of quilting there is self-expression as well as tradition. Olde Worlde colours vying with a blaze of rioutous delights. Simple blocks or points so sharp the pictures should come with a hazard warning. And so the scales fell from my eyes.

Would you like to see some of the beautifulness that abounds in quilty blogland? These are some great stepping off points.

Fortunately there are a bazillion more and in the lead up to the great even there will be more links, I hope you take a chance and discover some for yourself.
